by Isaiah Marie-Thérèse Unum Sanctum Ecclesiam? by Isaiah Marie-Thérèse On the Song of Songs 2. 1-3 ‘I am the flower of the field, and the lily of the valleys. As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters. As the apple tree among the trees of the woods, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow, whom I […]

by Isaiah Marie-Thérèse On the Origins of St Augustine’s Mysticism Introduction St. Augustine, a preeminent Doctor of the Church, became a widely influential polemical theologian in his time, due to the intertwining of the Church and politics. The Goal of the Theological Summary
The Theological Summary started life as an idea born of frustration with Christianity’s inability to apply its theology to the modern world. Whether due to structural issues within churches, or the demographic disparity between elders and practitioners, arguably since the invention of portable electronics, the Church has been unable to adapt to modernity.
This is the gap that The Theological Summary aims to fill. From how a Christian should go about interactions with LLMs, to what provisions need to be made when Man inhabits a permanent lunar base as a result of the Artemis missions this decade; or, for example, why a Christian should rely on his or her own conscience (and the teachings of Scripture) over false shepherds, especially concerning complex issues such as Just War; and how marriage is, in fact, an eternal covenant and does not end in heaven – contrary to the mistaken teaching of ’till death do us part.’
The array of topics to be discussed will be vast and varied, all written with biblical prominence and grounded in the writings of theologians (when appropriate). The goal is to inform you, dear reader, with a nuanced and well-researched approach that you will struggle to find elsewhere (whether that be from the pulpits or in books).
The Dominican Order has a saying: ‘To contemplate, and hand unto others the fruit of contemplation.’ I hope I can pass on the myriad of things I have to research on a daily basis to you. God bless.
Academic Quality without the Ivory Tower Jargon
The guiding principle of The Theological Summary is academic quality at an accessible level. Much of theology is highbrow and written by theologians for theologians, and as a consequence, it goes unread or unnoticed by ordinary Christians who simply want to know what the Bible teaches about circumstances they face in daily life.
This ‘Ivory Tower’ approach has led, at least in part, to the dearth of sound theology addressing modern technologies and conventions (amongst other things). By vigorously sourcing theological and moral principles from Scripture, as well as occasionally the Church Fathers and other established theologians, The Theological Summary intends to correct this.
